About DataLicensingAudit.com

Updated

DataLicensingAudit.com is an independent guide to licensing your company's operational data through BizBuyData.com, Mode Inc.'s company data-licensing program, which buys an agreed, de-identified copy of company records and resells it for AI research and training. We explain how Mode's program works, publish sourced guides on the risks and the paperwork, offer an illustrative estimate, and introduce interested firms to Mode. We may earn a referral fee if your company is accepted.

What this site does

  • Explains the program. We describe Mode's BizBuyData program in plain language: what data is in scope, who is eligible, and how the process runs from first estimate to payment, using Mode's own published materials and independent reporting.
  • Publishes sourced guides. Our guides cover specific situations, such as law firms, accounting firms, software companies and nonprofits, plus a primer on what operational data licensing is. See all guides.
  • Offers an illustrative calculator. The calculator on our home page is a rough, rules-based figure built from numbers Mode has published. It is not an offer and Mode does not use it. The full method is on our methodology page.
  • Makes introductions. If you ask us to, and you tick the consent box on our form, we pass your details to Mode so its team can contact you. Mode decides whether your company qualifies and what, if anything, it offers.

Editorial standards

We write for a skeptical managing partner, CFO or executive director. That shapes how we work:

  • Primary sources first. We rely on Mode's program page, referral terms and press release, court and regulatory documents, professional rules, and named reporting. We link to them inline so you can check them yourself.
  • Every figure is attributed. Each payout range, headcount threshold or timeline on this site says who published it. Where sources disagree, for example on minimum headcounts, we show both and say so.
  • Checks are dated. Program terms change. Each page shows when it was last updated, and where we quote a web page we note when we viewed it.
  • Risks are included. Our guides cover confidentiality duties, employee consent, de-identification limits and contract terms, not only the potential payment. Where a professional rule or law may apply, we name it, describe it conservatively and tell you to talk to your own counsel.
  • No invented proof. We do not publish testimonials, client names, case studies or statistics we cannot source.
  • Corrections. If you spot an error or an outdated figure, email hello@datalicensingaudit.com with the page and the source. We review every correction request and update the page and its date when we change it.

How we are paid

We are an independent referral partner of Mode. If a company we introduce is accepted and completes a deal, Mode may pay us a referral fee under its published referral terms. Mode is currently our only referral relationship. The details, including Mode's published fee terms, are on our disclosure page.

What we are not

  • We are not Mode, and we are not owned by or affiliated with Mode beyond the referral relationship.
  • We are not an AI lab, and we do not buy, store or resell anyone's operational data.
  • We are not a law firm or an accounting firm, and nothing on this site is legal, tax or financial advice.
  • DataLicensingAudit.com is not a CPA firm and does not perform attest or financial audits; "audit" refers to an informal data-readiness review.
  • We are not a broker that buys data or negotiates on your behalf. Mode makes its own offers and its own terms govern any deal.
